Carbon fiber is the most durable and strong vinyl there is but there are times when you will need to change the 3M carbon fiber. It doesn’t have to be because it is damaged but simply because you want to have a change. The durability of this vinyl is enough to make it last up to ten years indoors and five years outdoors. Accidents can also be the reason to damage vinyl applied onto cars and vehicles and that means you may have to think about changing it. Proper removal techniques are essential in such a scenario.
Removal Process for 3M Carbon Fiber Vinyl
If you have had the vinyl on for a long time, then it is definitely going to be tricky to take that thing off. But with the right technique its very easy and nothing will suffer damage. Just be patient and keep these tips and suggestions in mind:
- If the vinyl is applied to a vehicle or anything else, make a little cut carefully, not too deep or it will damage that surface underneath. A razor blade will do fine and all you have to do is make light scores.
- A blow dryer or heat gun will not only help loosen the adhesive for removal but it also makes the 3M carbon fiber vinyl softer which means it wont be coming off in pieces.
- If the heat setting is too high you may melt the vinyl which won’t be a good idea. So just make sure the heat is at a moderate setting.
- Once all that is done, start peeling it carefully. The heat should be used throughout the peeling process, softening the carbon fiber vinyl wherever possible. If the heat is right this should be relatively easy to do.
- If the vinyl seems to be breaking off or seems too brittle than the temperature must be too cold. You may need to adjust the heat accordingly.
- Special residual adhesive cleaners are available and these should be used once the vinyl has been peeled off completely and some residue adhesive remains. Using this special remover means there will be no damage to surface or material that the vinyl was mounted on.
- Using the special cleaner is even more essential if you have mounted the 3M carbon fiber vinyl on a vehicle because you don’t want to damage the paint surface and the original paint job.
- You can easily remove the adhesive cleaner by mild soap and water mixture clean up.
